The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is the process whereby adults enter into full communion with the Catholic Church. Those enrolled in the program receive instruction on the teachings of the Catholic Church and are given the opportunity to discuss and ask questions about the faith.
The OCIA program takes about eight to nine months, typically starting in September and ending in May. Classes meet on a weekly basis. The culmination of the program is at the Easter Vigil when candidates (those already baptized) and catechumens (non-baptized) receive the Sacraments and become full members of the Catholic Church.
Those enrolled in the program are not obligated to become Catholic. Catholics and non-Catholics alike who want to deepen their understanding of the Catholic faith are welcome.
